Mecha-Football Zombie is a mechanized walker maneuvered by a Future Zombie that appears in Far Future in Plants vs. Zombies 2. He possesses high health and pushes plants to the left or out of the lawn while skipping obstacles, dealing significant damage to unaffected targets otherwise.

Description

The Mecha-Football Zombie is a bipedal walker with an extremely high amount of health, enough to withstand an instant kill plant at full health. It is piloted by a Future Zombie. The zombie inside uses a steering wheel to control it and pushes a button to push plants away.

The walker is designed to resemble a football helmet as a reference to the Football Zombie from the first game. It has a design of a bone in a cross-like pattern on the top and below the design is a glass window from where the driver can look at the outside. On its side there is a skull insignia with a blue eye and a green eye.

The metal ram below the cockpit has multiple visible spikes and bits of grass sticking on them.

Overview

The Mecha-Football Zombie absorbs 2000 damage. His appearance changes upon absorbing 320, 600, 860, 1120, 1460, and 1740 shots before dying at 2000 damage. Mecha-Football Zombie also deals 400 damage per shove to plants or zombies that he can't push.

Strategies

Because he has high health, does not eat, and pushes most plants across or out of the lawn, traditional defensive plants are useless. Your priority against him would be to eliminate him from range, preferably before he can close on your formations and disrupt them easily.

The Chard Guard and Primal Peashooter are accessible options useful for tossing him back, but each has their own drawbacks - Chard Guards need to be constantly restored with Wall-Nut First Aid/Aloe/Reinforce-Mint, which isn't helped by his slow recharge, and Primal Peashooter, on top of only achieving efficiency in large numbers, has single-target attacks and the chance of knock-back isn't high.

Spikeweed, Spikerock and Cactus are good at chipping him down. The former two are ignored by him and most other zombies, while the latter automatically hides while zombies approach her, damaging him all the while. Spikeweeds and Spikerocks become even more effective if plants with good crowd-control capabilities are included - Winter Melons or Pokras could easily slow them to a crawl, giving these grounded plants time to take their stabs while also extending E.M.Peach's paralysis duration.

Most plants with good area damage such as Cherry Bomb and Primal Potato Mine can also be efficient, as they can cripple, if not completely obliterate him and most others around. As most short plants can't be directly pushed, Primal Potato Mine can safely arm himself before the Mecha-Football zombie before devastating the whole area.

Some unconventional methods can also serve useful. If your area damage plants are able to handle the weaker foes, Caulipower and Electric Blueberry will be more likely to hit dangerous, durable zombies, it included. Since Caulipower will restore hypnotized mechanical zombies back to full health, it can make him an effective distraction.

In Pinata Parties, Mecha-Football Zombies are a big threat, since the plants given can be very weak or poor against him. In addition, parties which have flowers or endangered plants will make him even more of a threat. Try and use Plant Food effects against them to efficiently take him out.

In the international version, the Mecha-Football Zombie can't push plants using their plant food abilities - Consider using this as a last-ditch effort with a boosted plant that recharges quickly. Some instants like Blover and Hurrikale can't be pushed, while Guacodile simply does his rush attack and runs off the lawn, but these are generally of little importance.

Trivia

• He was glitched in 7.5.1. where the game crashes when he pushes Infi-Nut's force field before it was patched in 7.6.1.
• His Almanac entry suggests that he used to play football but has retired at least once, as it says "Now past his prime, Mecha-Football Zombie is ready to be put back into the game."
• Despite the fact that a Football Zombie had more health than a Conehead Zombie in Plants vs. Zombies, Robo-Cone Zombie has more health than the Mecha-Football Zombie.
  • This might be because Mecha-Football Zombie's main purpose is an assault robot that disrupts the player's defenses while Robo-Cone Zombie is better off protecting zombies behind it.

• Mecha-Football Zombie pushes plants to the left, while Fisherman Zombie, Qigong Zombie, and QiGong Bronze pull plants to the right. Excavator Zombie uses his shovel to pull plants to the right, but unlike Mecha-Football Zombie, when the plant reaches the three rightmost columns, the plant isn't necessarily kicked out of the screen.
  • If a Mecha-Football Zombie pushes plants within the range of the Excavator Zombie/Fisherman Zombie/Qigong Zombie/Qigong Bronze, he will throw them back. This can cause an infinite loop where the two zombies basically do nothing other than playing around with plants.
• Mecha-Football Zombie, Punk Zombie (during his jam) and Blade-Wielding Hero are the only zombies that can push plants.
• If he pushes an endangered plant off the lawn or reaches the player's house, the game will still say "THE ZOMBIES ATE YOUR PLANT!" or "THE ZOMBIES ATE YOUR BRAINS!", respectively, despite the mech being incapable of eating.
  • However, to targets that cannot be pushed, he deals a large amount of damage instead. For example, if a Robo-Cone zombie was hypnotized and the Mecha-Football Zombie attacks it, that zombie will be defeated within a few hits.
• If the player looks closely, patches of dirt and grass can be seen between the Mecha-Football Zombie's spike plates, much like how Football Zombie had patches of dirt stuck in the mouth guard of his helmet in most promotional material for Plants vs. Zombies.
  • This also shares the same case as All-Star Zombie, since the robot clearly has a grass patch stuck onto its mouth guard.
• He shares the same feet as Harvester Zombie.
• Gum-nut's almanac entry describes it as a "Football Mech".
• Mecha-Football Zombie, Gargantuar Prime, Zombie King, Surfer Zombie, Fisherman Zombie, Troglobite, Imp Porter, Arcade Zombie, and Hair Metal Gargantuar are the only zombies that are able to kill Ghost Pepper (Though indirectly).

• Since version 1.7.5, he got a new attack in PvP Mode. When using Plague Pharmacy, he pulls out a Mecha-Football glove and throws three footballs on three random plants.
• He is unable to push Coffee Bean or plants that are in-front of Coffee Bean.
