Meteor Flower
Meteor Flower is a plant in Plants vs. Zombies 2 introduced in the 10.0.1 update for the Meteoric Cataclysm! Arena season. It shoots two projectiles from the sky at zombies which deals splash damage on a 3x1 area, leaving behind a molten pool which continues to deal damage on the tile it lands on.
It has a reload time of 7 seconds (and a delay of 0.8 seconds) between shots, and a 35% chance to repeatedly target the same tile. The molten pool can override butter puddles (from Buttercup and Bud'uh Boom) / sap puddles (from Sap-fling) / oil puddles (from Olive Pit) / ice trails (from Zomboni) / poison tiles (from Goo Peashooter) / lava puddles (from Lava Guava), while these kinds of grid items cannot be spawned on molten pools. Goo puddles from Cran Jelly has a higher priority, thus being able to prevent molten pools to be spawed on them and destroy molten pools on spawning. It cannot be created on ocean tiles in Pirate Seas, or on the water in Big Wave Beach.
Origins
Although never mentioned in-game, the official PvZ2 staff reddit account confirms that Meteor Flower is based on the Purpletop flower, Verbena bonariensis, more specifically the 'Meteor Shower' cultivar.[1]
Its ability to repel Dinosaurs refers to a popular theory of Dinosaurs' extinction which involves a meteorite impact.

Upgrades
Plant Food effect
When given Plant Food, Meteor Flower will conjure 3 meteor strikes, each dealing 140 damage and having a 3x3 radius. These meteor strikes can also leave behind a normal molten pool. Meteor Flower's Plant Food effect also scares away all dinosaurs on screen when activated, unless they were charmed by Perfume-Shroom, in which case they remain unaffected.
In the Chinese version, its Plant Food ability behaves differently, as Meteor Flower will still conjure 3 meteor strikes but in its lane and adjacent lanes, which roll up to four tiles upon landing, leaving molten pools in 4x3 area as well as pushing back zombies. It also counters dinosaur stampedes.

Strategies
Since Meteor Flower's targets are randomized, it should not be used as your main attacker, especially with zombies that rush towards your defense quickly. However, it makes up for this with its high damage output.
Meteor Flower is useful for taking out zombies who release critters such as Chicken Wrangler Zombie and Weasel Hoarder, since Meteor Flower's meteors will kill them and will leave lava tiles to take out the critters. They are also useful for battling against Jester Zombie as he can't counter any of this plant's attacks.
Meteor Flower should be used as a support plant, being planted in the back, since its cooldown leaves it vulnerable. If Meteor Flower is put farther down the lawn, it is recommended to use a defensive plant such as Pumpkin to protect it due to its cooldown time.
Meteor Flower truly shines in Frostbite Caves. It can emit heat around it in a radius that can help defrost plants, as well as being able to defeat Hunter Zombies and Troglobites with ease.
It is important to note that Meteor Flower's Plant Food can force Dinosaurs to leave. This makes Meteor Flower a great pick for Jurassic Marsh, as well as its endless zone, as Perfume-Shroom is infamous for being generally ineffective.
Hurrikale/Inferno can be a good partner to Meteor Flower because it can bunch up multiple zombies onto a single tile, allowing Meteor Flower's attack to deal damage to the bunched up horde. However, if this strategy is used, it is important to note that Hurrikale will lose its chilling effect.
Like all other fire-based plants, Meteor Flower is ineffective towards Imp Dragon Zombies, even if it were boosted. Also, avoid using Meteor Flower against Newspaper Zombies as it has a slow reload time, which can cause the projectiles to miss them due to their flighty speed when enraged.

Trivia
- Unlike other fire plants, Meteor Flower was able to deal damage to Imp Dragon Zombie. They also didn't ash zombies. This was changed in the 10.1.1 update.
- Meteor Flower and Perfume-shroom are the only plants that can affect and counter Dinosaurs.
- There is a slight visual glitch with Meteor Flowers molten tiles. In Pirate Seas, Meteor flower can attack Imp Cannon, but this will cause a molten tile to spawn underneath it, appearing to partially float above the water.
- Meteor Flower's Sun Cost, Recharge and Starting Recharge do not change when upgraded.
