Sundew Tangler
Sundew Tangler is a plant in Plants vs. Zombies 2 introduced in the 10.7.1 update as part of the "Sundew Tangler's Ensuring Season!" Arena season. She is a short ranged plant that's able to ensnare zombies that get too close to her.
Sundew Tangler is able to use ensnared zombies that walk over her as a shield against other zombies in a similar manner to Claw Gloriosa. Sundew Tangler is also able to "drain" zombies to produce sun, dealing 26 damage every 2 seconds.
Origins
Sundew Tangler is based on the sundew, a carnivorous plant in the genus Drosera, specifically the round-leaved sundew (Drosera rotundifolia). Sundew Tangler's ability of stunning zombies is based on the sundew's real life ability of ensnaring its prey with the sticky fluid coating its tricomes.
Her name is based on the plant, sundew, in reality. Also, her name includes the word "sun", referring to her sun-producing ability.
Overview
Sundew Tanglers have special abilities, which is similar to instant-use plants such as Power Mints:
- They cannot be destroyed by most means:
- They cannot be eaten by zombies. Instead, the zombies will just walk through them.
- They cannot be carried away by Zombie Parrot.
- They cannot be crushed by crashing zombies. If Troglobite or Arcade Zombie run into them, they will stop pushing ice blocks or the arcade machine and just go ahead.
- They cannot be transformed into sheep by Wizard Zombie and can't be covered by octopus from Octo Zombie.
- However, they can be destroyed when Zombot Tuskmaster 10,000 BC makes ice blocks over where they are planted or speakers are spawned from Zombot Multi-stage Masher. They can also be destroyed by Zombie King.
- They can not be pulled by Fisherman Zombie and can also block him from pulling other plants behind them.
- They are not affected by Boombox Zombie.
- Jester Zombie's reflected projectiles just pass through them.
- They are immune to freezing winds in Frostbite Caves.
- Dr. Zomboss will be stunned when he attempts to ram them.

Strategies
While Sundew Tangler's ability may seem complicated at first, it turns out that it is a very easy plant to use. Since it's immune to zombie attacks, you don't need to worry too much about where you're placing it. However, it is definitely not reccomended to use her as your main attacker, as its ability can only affect one zombie at a time, meaning it can get overpowered easily by crowds.
Sundew Tangler strays from the traditional strategy of placing sun producers at the back of your defense. Instead, you should plant it near the front of the lawn. This ensures that it can trap zombies as soon as they come out and produce sun early. An invincible sun producer is extremely valuable since you don't have to worry about it getting eaten.
Sundew Tangler ignores armor, meaning you can use it on armored zombies without any problems. This can be especially useful if there are any Zombie Kings around, as Sundew Tangler easily takes out all the knights he creates.
Sadly, when leveled up enough, Sundew Tangler completely loses its sun producing capabilities due to doing too much damage and taking the zombie out before it can produce any sun. If you want Sundew Tangler for sun production, it is not recommended to level it up. However, if quickly taking out zombies is what you're looking for, then you should do exactly the opposite.

Trivia
- While carnivorous plants have been represented in the franchise before, Sundew Tangler is the first representation of a 'flypaper' trap carnivorous plant. The previous carnivorous plants that have been featured have been either 'snap' traps (Chomper, Venus Flytrap) or 'pitfall' traps (Dino-Roar Grass, Gorgon Pitcher).
- Her almanac description is a reference to the popular quote that originated from the 1988 John Carpenter film They Live.
