Levitater
“ | ” | |
Levitater is a plant in Plants vs. Zombies 2 introduced in the 9.8.1 update for the Levitater's Lively Arena season. Every 10 seconds, it causes the zombie closest to it to begin levitating for 5 seconds, with a 50% chance to toss them off the lawn. Zombies that are levitated cannot be blown away by plants such as Blover, Hurrikale, or Draftodil.
Origins
Levitater's name is a portmanteau of the words "levitator," referring to the fact that it can levitate zombies and "tater," a slang word for potato, the real-life plant on which this plant is based.

Strategies
Levitater shares many traits with Hocus Crocus. They are both Enchant-mint family plants that stall a single zombie at a time by pushing them back. However, Hocus Crocus is much more powerful, as it can warp zombies back across the full lawn instead of just a single tile. However, planting several Levitaters does not target the same zombies unlike Hocus Crocus. Also, Levitater's sun cost is considerably cheaper than Hocus Crocus, which can be much more versatile in scenarios where the sun is more restricted, such as Last Stand or levels with "Spent no more than X amount of sun" challenge.
Due to its heavier emphasis on single-target stalling, it's much more useful against large zombies with lots of health, such as Gargantuars or Robo-Cones. This also lets it perform well in Penny's Pursuit, as the game mode often prefers to have a lower density of stronger zombies rather than a higher density of weaker zombies that you may find in Endless Zones. Due to its strength towards single-target zombies, it can be paired with plants that excel at dealing with groups of zombies (such as Fume-shroom), allowing the latter to better deal with the high-health zombies.
Zombies in the levitated state are stunned during this time, preventing them from damaging plants or using special abilities (such as Octo Zombie's ability to throw octopuses). This essentially means its levitation will pick a zombie out-of-play for a short while before they're set back a tile. This can even be seen with similar plants (such as the aforementioned Hocus Crocus), but their analogous effects are usually too short to have the same impact as Levitater's.
Keep in mind that zombies during the levitated state can still get hit normally by any plants such as Cabbage-pult or Repeater, allowing this unconventional out-of-play uptime to instead function as a conventional stun uptime. Additionally, Levitater is much more powerful when spammed in large numbers, as they also have a 50% chance of levitating the zombies off the lawn (killing them instantly) and it is incredibly effective against high-health zombies such as Gargantuars. When utilizing Levitater's instant-kill levitation ability to kill zombies alone, it is highly recommended to bring stallers such as Stallia to mitigate the pressure for Levitater's short cooldown before levitating again or use support plants like Winter Melon to deal with weaker zombies while taking advantage of levitated ability against stronger zombies.

Trivia
- Levitater's Almanac entry uses the noun "Blover" as a verb.
- It is the sixth potato plant to appear in Plants vs. Zombies 2, the first being Potato Mine, the second being Imitater, the third being Hot Potato, the fourth being Primal Potato Mine, and the fifth being Teleportato Mine.
- Despite being a potato, it did not appear in the promotional image for National Potato Day 2022, even after its debut in Arena.
- Airborne zombies levitated by it are permanently immune to the effects of getting blown away. This may be due to Levitater overriding their "flying" state.
- Like Teleportato Mine, Levitater cannot be planted on a Lily Pad, but it can still be planted on wooden planks in Pirate Seas.
- The eyes of Levitater bears a great resemblance to the eyes of most of the plants in the recent Plants vs. Zombies 3 beta.
