Resistant Radish (白萝卜; pinyin: Bái Luóbo) is the first plant obtained in Kongfu World in the Chinese version of Plants vs. Zombies 2, introduced as a counter for Qigong Zombies, Qigong Bronze and black holes. In exchange for having lower health than a Wall-nut, he cannot be pulled by Qigong Zombie or Qigong Bronze or sucked in by a black hole. Additionally, plants behind him cannot be pulled or sucked into a black hole as well.

Origins

Resistant Radish is based on the daikon (Raphanus sativus longipinnatus) (a mild-flavored winter radish usually characterized by fast-growing leaves and a long white napiform root), but his appearance resembles more a sakurajima radish (Raphanus sativus hortensis gigantissimus).

His name consists of the word "resistant" referring to his ability to resist the pull of black holes, Qigong Zombie and Qigong Bronze, and "radish", referring to the vegetable he's based on.

In English: Resistant Radish stands firm and resists the magic from Qigong Zombies and Black Holes' suction. Plant feature: white plant Resistant Radish has studied qigong for many years, but he only learned one thing: stasis.

When fed Plant Food, Resistant Radish will spawn a clone of himself. He mostly targets lanes that don't have Resistant Radishes.

He spawns two clones of himself instead. Like normally, he targets lanes with no Resistant Radishes.

Strategies

This plant is useful in levels with black holes and Qigong Zombies. Try to plant a Resistant Radish in front of offensive plants to prevent them from being pulled away. It is not recommended to use it against Mecha-Football Zombie or Fisherman Zombie since they will just push or pull them. Against the Gunpowder Devil, Resistant Radish can help, as it summons Qigong Zombies.

He can also be used as a weaker but quicker version of Wall-nut, due to having a fast recharge and the same cost. However, Primal Wall-nut and Wax Gourd Guard will quickly take that role with their higher health at a slightly (if Primal Wall-nut) higher sun cost.

At level 2 and above, Resistant Radish can defend himself. However, his damage is simply too low for it to have any impact. He is easily outclassed by Endurian, Holly Barrier and especially Ents, as they do more damage, despite being more expensive. As this plant isn't useful outside of his niche, he is generally outclassed by them.

Trivia

• His plant food ability reuses assets from Bowling Bulb.
• Resistant Radish, Infi-nut, Chard Guard, Endurian, and Celery Stalker are the only defensive plants to have Elevated toughness.
• He is the first of three defensive plants that have a Fast recharge. The other ones are Red Stinger (when planted far from player's house) and Primal Wall-nut.
• Resistant Radish was originally going to be featured on the mobile card game Plants vs. Zombies Heroes as a 6 4/6 with the ability: "When played: All Plants get +2."
• As he is buried into the earth, he cannot be planted on wooden planks in Pirate Seas but can be put there if moved by Excavator Zombie. He shares this trait with Potato Mine, Bamboo Shoot, Cactus, Celery Stalker, Primal Potato Mine, Escape Root, Olive Pit, Bamboo Bro and Lotus Shooter.
• Like Fire-shroom from Plants vs. Zombies: Social Edition, Tall-nut and Garlic (both only in the first game), he cries when he is low on health.
• Despite being able to resist the pull of Qigong Zombie, black holes and Qigong Bronze, Resistant Radish cannot resist the push of the Mecha-Football Zombie or the pull of Fisherman Zombie or the shovel of Excavator Zombie. This is because they are not using qigong techniques, which Resistant Radish can only resist.
• When fed with Plant Food, he makes the same noise that Potato Mine makes when Plant Food is used on him.
• He is one of the only plants whose initial recharge time is higher than it's regular recharge time.
• When the level starts, he will only start to recharge after 20 seconds has passed.
• He and Dendrobium Windbreak are the only defensive plants who were made to counter a gimmick. In Resistant Radish's case, it was for Qigong Zombie, Qigong Bronze and black holes.
