Cob Cannon (玉米加农炮; yùmǐ jiānóngpào) is a monthly special plant in the Chinese version of Plants vs. Zombies 2. He was first introduced in the 2017 New Year event.

He works like how he did in the original Plants vs. Zombies, to the point where he is an upgrade plant rather than his own individual plant and can be tapped to fire huge cobs that deal massive damage in a 3x3 area before needing to recharge.

However, compared to the first game, at level 1, his damage is reduced to 1200 damage, and his firing rate is increased to 50 seconds.

He requires being planted on two side-by-side Kernel-pults in order to be planted on the lawn.

When given Plant Food, Cob Cannon launches a corn cob that scatters explosive corn kernels for 6 seconds.

Costumed

In addition to launching a corn cob, the corn's husk will turn into a missile that homes into the zombies after all kernels are scattered.

Strategies

His usage has remained unchanged since his introduction into the game. Hence, the same strategy from the first game will also apply here.

Use Plant Food on the Cob Cannon if the zombies are getting close to the Cob Cannon while he is still recharging but be careful not to use it in obstructive environments such as Kongfu World (Weapon Stands) and Ancient Egypt (Tombstones) as the obstructions can block the kernels and can prevent the effectiveness of all the kernels. A Heath Seeker (especially a leveled-up one) or an Angel Starfruit's Plant Food effect can dispose of most if not all of them.

Just remember that his Plant Food effect can only activate via Power Tiles if the tile is on the back square, otherwise, he will not be affected.

However, he is outclassed by Missile Toe. She has received buffs in this game, as her missiles affect a 3x3 are as well, as well as chilling zombies, costing less sun, only taking up 1 tile, not requiring Kernel-pult and having a shorter cooldown time, making her more worthwhile to bring her along over Cob Cannon.

Trivia

• He is the only upgrade from the first game that is planted like he did in the first game (Planted on two side-by-side Kernel-pults).
• Unlike the first game, after launching the corn cob, Cob Cannon gives out the new cob then cools down despite Cob Cannon giving out the new cob early after launching.
• He, Plantern, Coffee Bean and Cattail are the only plants in the first game to appear in the Chinese version without appearing in the international version.
• Unlike his original appearence, he doesn't actually take up two tiles, only the back tile counts as a plant.
• Despite his first upgrade being called "One-second Reduction" (减一秒), the upgrade reduces more than one second off his recharge time (7.5 seconds).
  • This is because the names are actually a parody on China's ex-president Jiang Zemin known as "moha", based on a rumor that a hanged boy sacrificed himself to save Jiang from severe illness. The meme is about extending his life through sacrificing others by "1 second" (though not necessarily needs to be one second). It can be seen as this pairs with Perfume-shroom's upgrade abilities.
• Even though his almanac entry says that his recharge is Sluggish, it’s actually Mediocre in game, since his in game recharge is 10 seconds.
• He has some weird interactions with certain zombies:
  • Tomb Raiser Zombie will put a grave inside him.
  • `Wizard Zombie and Octo Zombie will turn him into a sheep/octopus but you still can plant on both tiles.
  • If frozen only the left part will have the ice block.
  • Arcade Zombie can push an arcade inside him.
• He, along with Egret Flower Plane are the only plants that cannot be revived by Intensive Carrot when defeated.
  • Unlike Egret Flower Plane, Cob Cannon is always unrevivable no matter the way he gets destroyed.
  • It’s unknown whether this is intentional or unintentional.
