From Plants vs. Zombies Wiki
Elderberry is a colossal rare plant card in Plants vs. Zombies Heroes and a member of the Solar class. He costs 4 to play and has 2/4. He has the Strikethrough trait, and his Plant Evolution ability gives him +3.
Origin
He is based on the Sambucus, commonly called elder or elderberry.
His appearance is a visual pun on the word "elder" in his name, as Elderberry looks like an old man due to the wrinkles and beard while also holding a staff which is used as a cane.

Strategies
With
Elderberry seems like a rather unremarkeable attacker, but his main catch is his Evolution ability which dramatically boosts his strength, making him an instant threat at turn 4, or even earlier if you use ramp cards like Sunflower and Solar Winds, not to mention the Solar Class' abundance of cheap plants and Lil' Buddy. Playing him on another plant not only puts a powerful threat on board but also removes a weak plant that the opponent could have destroyed easily, making him a great addition to any Solar deck that proves to be just as powerful if not stronger than the Laser Bean.
As a Flower Plant, Elderberry is able to synergize with Power Flower and Briar Rose, able to provide more healing or forcing a trade if a zombie hurts him.
Each hero have their ways of using Elderberry:
- Wall-Knight can boost his health and employ durable Team-Up plants to protect Elderberry, not to mention his access to Pumpkin Shell, which not only activate Elderberry's ability but also provide a significant boost. He also access to anti-gravestone cards to counter Squirrel Herder.
- Solar Flare is able to boost his strength, use damaging removal cards to clear the way, and has access to the cheap Puff-Shroom. As Elderberry is also a Berry plant, he can synergize well with the likes of Sergeant Strongberry, Strawberrian and High-Voltage Currant.
- Chompzilla can provide stat boosts or fire off devastating bonus attacks with Plant Food. She can also move zombies away from Elderberry, or get them inside his lane so his attack hits both the zombie and the zombie hero. She can additionally use Umbrella Leaf to protect her high-strength plants from being directly removed by enemy tricks.
- Rose can use a variety of cards to Freeze or bounce zombies that threaten Elderberry, and her cheap amphibious plants allow her to put a huge threat on the aquatic lane.
Against
This plant can be a huge threat if evolved, with 5/4 and Strikethrough. When evolved, taking him down before he can attack is highly recommended, as he will chip a quarter of your health every turn, acting like a weaker Laser Bean. If he is not evolved, however, Elderberry can be easily destroyed with Rolling Stone, Weed Spray, or Celestial Custodian played in an environment.
Brainy heroes can easily destroy Elderberry with Rocket Science if he is evolved, or Cut Down to Size in the case of Super Brainz and Rustbolt. Sneaky heroes can use Deadly zombies to take down Elderberry, although this still allows Elderberry to attack and possibly land devastating damage on your hero. To further assist this strategy, use bonus attack cards such as Lurch for Lunch as either Super Brainz or Huge-Gigantacus (unless Wing-Nut is on the field), or Freezing cards such as Frosty Mustache to prevent him from attacking. Crazy heroes can use Cakesplosion or Final Mission, which do enough damage to remove Elderberry in one hit.
Squirrel Herder is also the perfect solution, as she can destroy Elderberry since he is a berry plant. Due to her Gravestone trait, Wall-Knight can play Grave Buster and Blockbuster, while Rose can play Spyris, Cool Bean + Winter Squash and Grave Mistake, so keep that in mind, though other Solar heroes wouldn't have any options against gravestones anyway.
