Strategies
With
Laser Bean is a 6-sun 5/7 plant, which isn't very astounding. But thanks to its Strikethrough trait and high strength, it can be a great finisher as a late-game card to pressure the opponent, as they must remove it as quickly as possible or they and any zombies in its way will take heavy damage. It is a very reasonable 'big drop' in the mid-to-late game, because of its stats and the ability to pressure your opponent, and it is also a solid card in many 'mid-range' Solar decks which aim to drop one big card every turn.
Each hero has their own unique strategy to use with it.
- Wall-Knight can use Pecanolith to ensure that it does 7 damage instead of 5 (but it will weaken as it takes damage). He can also use durable Team-Up plants to protect Laser Bean from other zombies, and boost its already high health. If the opponent attempts to use the likes of Smelly Zombie, he can use anti-gravestone cards like Grave Buster
- Solar Flare can increase its strength with various cards, allowing it to do more damage. She can also play it in Pair Pearadise for twice the destruction. Her access to damaging cards like Berry Blast can deal with small threats that attempt to damage Laser Bean.
- Chompzilla can use boosting cards like Grow-Shroom to boost its stats, or play Umbrella Leaf to prevent zombie tricks from removing it directly. She can also move zombies that could threaten Laser Bean out of the way.
- Rose could use a combination of freezing and bouncing effects to repel any zombie in the way, as it is too costly for any meaningful bean synergy and there are better plants for the purpose. She can also play it on water lane by using Lily Pad's fusion to make bigger threat, as the opponent will have a hard time dealing with it without the right cards.
Laser Bean, however, is completely outclassed by Elderberry, another card of the same class. While Laser Bean arguably has greater health and does not require an additional plant for Evolution to reach full strength, Elderberry is more accessible, has two meaningful tribe synergies (Flower and Berry), can be played earlier to apply pressure and do just as much damage, due in no small part to the Solar class' wide variety of disposable plants. For this reason, players are advised to instead build their decks around Elderberry and forgo Laser Bean entirely.
Against
Laser Bean combines extreme strength and health with the dangerous strikethrough trait. It can be harmful if you leave it alone for too long, though thankfully its raw stats are really just everything it offers.
Try to play an instant kill like Rocket Science to get rid of it immediately or abuse the deadly trait to your advantage, as 7 health can be difficult to chip down otherwise. If you are a Crazy hero, you can use Exploding Fruitcake to destroy this card for only 2 brains to gain a massive tempo advantage over your opponent.
