From Plants vs. Zombies Wiki
Black-Eyed Pea is a premium super-rare plant card in Plants vs. Zombies Heroes and a member of the Mega-Grow class. It costs 2 to play and has 2/3.
It does not have any traits, and its ability gives it +1/+1 every time a zombie trick is played, unless it is destroyed by said trick. Its closest zombie counterpart is Fraidy Cat.
Origins
It is based on the black-eyed pea (Vigna unguiculata subsp. unguiculata), a legume of a subspecies of the cowpea (Vigna unguiculata).
The name references "The Black Eyed Peas," an American musical group, as well as the fact it literally has a black eye.

Strategies
With
By itself, Black-Eyed Pea is a powerful plant for its cost, with its 2/3 stats being at the high point for 2-cost cards. However, its real use lies in its ability as a deterrent against heavy trick usage from the opposing hero.
As zombie tricks can be highly dangerous to the plants if properly used, Black-Eyed Pea can help in cutting trick usage by giving the plants notable benefits with each trick usage and force the enemy to be more careful. Black-Eyed Pea is technically immune to Nibble as while it still heals the Zombie Hero for up to 2, as long as Black-Eyed Pea has more than 1 health, it'll be able to survive and gain the stats back.
This plant benefits a lot from opponents with a trick-based deck, especially against Brainy heroes, so having Black-Eyed Pea against zombie heroes who rely on tricks like Immorticia would really help. If they don't have any immediate solutions to remove this plant, Black-Eyed Pea will grow out of control very quickly. Another occasion is Plant Missions, such as Professor Brainstorm's boss battle in Brains in Danger! where Professor Brainstorm's deck is full of Eureka cards, giving Black-Eyed Pea a huge advantage as he must spend the first few turns to conjure cards with Eureka, which in turn causes the plant to accumulate stats. Black-Eyed Pea works well with Umbrella Leaf, which can make nearby plants untrickable, forcing opponents to risk activating its ability before they could use their tricks on this plant.
Black-Eyed Pea belongs in two beneficial tribes, that being Pea and Bean. For Pea Synergy, it can be boosted by The Podfather and Torchwood, making it even stronger. Green Shadow is additionally able to use it in a Bean Deck with Admiral Navy Bean and Bean Counter.
However, this does not mean Black-Eyed Pea is a flawless counter against tricks. If it isn't boosted, Rolling Stone/Weed Spray/Celestial Custodian removes the plant easily, and there are a plethora of other tricks that instantly destroy plants. Barrel of Barrels and Super Stench can also be dangerous, as they can grant zombies the Deadly trait, which in turn can destroy any plant they damage. As a result, Black-Eyed Pea may have to be used alongside plants that are usually vulnerable to tricks to work around whatever the opponent may have in mind. It's also worth noting that despite environments being played in the tricks phase, they do not activate Black-Eyed Pea's ability.
Against
Avoid using tricks too early unless the zombie fighters can deal with it, especially if you are playing as a Brainy hero. This plant essentially locks down nearly all tricks and is pretty formidable early with its stats. Bouncing and using Zombies (preferably with the aid of the Deadly trait) are usually the way to go.
However, Rolling Stone, Zombot's Wrath and Weed Spray can take this out immediately, as can Locust Swarm. Alternatively, zombies with stat-lowering abilities such as Pied Piper and Landscaper can weaken it without activating its ability.
Black-Eyed Pea's ability can be used against itself should you run a deck that often spams cheap tricks, since these can put it within range of Rocket Science or Cut Down to Size's criteria. Just make sure it is removed without causing too much damage.
Note that environments do not count as tricks despite them being playable only in the Zombie Tricks phase, so use them as Black-Eyed Pea will not gain a stat boost.

Trivia
- If the player uses Carried Away or Lurch for Lunch on a zombie to destroy it, it will not play its "When destroyed" animation. Instead, it does its animation of activating its ability, and disappears without fading.
- This is presumably a glitch, as this does not occur when it is destroyed by other tricks.
- You can finish the quest "Increase the strength of plants" as zombies by playing a trick when Black-Eyed Pea is on the field.
- When played, a short audio clip of a bell is heard.
