Origins
It's design is based on an unused pear plant from the Chinese-exclusive turn-based game Plants vs. Zombies: All Stars.
Its name is based on the word "pair," which is a homophone of "pear."

Strategies
With
Seemingly designed as a swarm card like Shroom for Two, Pair of Pears generally fails in this regard for several reasons. For their very high cost, they have a subpar ability despite doing more damage, and have no meaningful tribe synergies to begin with, such as the Kabloom Class' cards don't work with them at all beyond general boosts. Despite the increase in stats, Strikethrough threats still destroy them easily. While Pear Pal does have the merit of being Amphibious, the value is lost when Pair of Pears, the card that makes it, does not. As such, all Kabloom heroes tend to run other cards instead.
Against
Pair of Pears is rarely if ever useful, and few players use them, but even if it does appear, it gets easily countered. Tricks like The Chickening and Weed Spray can wipe them easily unless their health/strength have been boosted, or if Captain Combustible pairs them with Umbrella Leaf. The same goes for 
Strikethrough Zombies like Hot Dog Imp and Line Dancing Zombie, which can technically wall both and achieve great value by trading. A strong Frenzy Zombie should also do the job, able to destroy both plants and hit the plant hero if given the chance.
Although not directly obvious, Pair of Pears cannot be countered with Extinction Event as it makes a Pear Pal, which is considered a different plant.
