His prominent ability is to regenerate health slightly faster than usual (in Garden Warfare) or regenerate health almost immediately after taking damage (in Garden Warfare 2), and he also has a slightly increased regeneration speed.
In Garden Warfare 2, a single Chomp Thing appears as a boss in the "League of Awesome" quest, in which he has eaten Toxic Brainz and must be defeated to continue the quest. Due to him being a champion, he has more health than the average Chomp Thing (as he can withstand one ZPG without being vanquished).
His appearance and name are references to the DC Comics character Swamp Thing (Right) and the Marvel Comics character Man-Thing (Left).
"Chomp" is in place of "Swamp" and "Man." In the former's case, also referring to how he is a Chomper and how the words Chomp and Swamp rhyme.
Descriptions
Stickerbook description
Chomp Thing might seem kind of gross to you and me. After all, what kind of Plant spews mud and dirt and bugs? Well Chomp Thing doesn't care what you think! He thinks he's the best!
In-game description
Chomp Thing can regenerate his health slightly faster than your average Chomper!
AI Health (Garden Warfare 2 only)

Normal: 108

Primary weapon
The primary weapon of the Chomp Thing is Swamp Spray. It deals 7.5 damage and hits much more rapidly than other spray attacks. This variant also regenerates health sooner and faster than other plants. He receives a damage upgrade to his primary weapon, unlike other Chompers.
The Cheesy Goop in the first in Crazy Dave's new line of gourmet marinades. It's scientifically formulated to slow Zombies down and make them taste great!
The Chomper's ultimate weapon. He has the ability to tunnel underground and ambush unsuspecting Zombies by emerging under their feet and swallowing them whole!
The Chesterweed attacks at an extremely fast speed, dealing up to 70 damage in 5 seconds. Chompers eating zombies trapped by the Chesterweed will swallow significantly faster, but the Chomper can only have two of them at a time, instead of three. It takes 60 seconds to recharge one Chesterweed.
If you're sick of being harassed by Zombies on rooftops, the Chomp Cannon is for you. Hock a loogie in their direction with this disgustingly explosive attack!
The Chomper's ultimate weapon. He has the ability to tunnel underground and ambush unsuspecting Zombies by emerging under their feet and swallowing them whole!
When a zombie stumbles into a Vampweed, you get a helpful health boost! The zombie isn't hurt, but he probably feels a bit silly falling into your trap.

Strategies
As
In the presence of the fast regeneration, Chomp Thing is a stealthy Chomper, along with Count Chompula. Try to hide around corners, attack the lone zombies, or swallow zombies dragging behind in zombie groups. If you are forced into close quarters, flank and vanquish them quickly, then hide and regenerate your health. In Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2, you should get the regeneration upgrade, for the quick regeneration time ability along with said upgrade can result in quick recovery or escapes.
Against
Like all Chomper variants, attack Chomp Thing from a distance. He is useless at long and medium-range combat, though he can still Goop you even if you are out of his reach. He does not have any lasting effects like Toxic Chomper or Fire Chomper but regenerates health quickly. If you see him regenerating health, damage him to stop his health regeneration.
▲ Digestion time was decreased after a chomp escape (i.e. victim got away using anti-chomp ability like Jackhammer).
▼ Brought Chompers regeneration delay to parity with all other playable characters.
▲ Fixed a bug where Chomp Thing’s health regeneration did not match his weapon description. He now regenerates health slightly sooner and faster than default.

Trivia
He is the only Chomper variant that has no thorns on his stem.
The damage upgrade actually serves as a health upgrade giving 25 more health instead of extra damage. Chomp Thing is the only Chomper variant to have an entirely misleading upgrade.
He is the only spray Chomper that does not cause a status effect (i.e., fire, electric, or toxic damage).
He is the only Chomper variant to have received a majority of buffs during the content updates of Garden Warfare 2, considering that many thought he was one of the worst variants in Garden Warfare, if not, the absolute worst variant.
He and Armor Chomper are the only Chomper variants whose health is not a multiple of 25.
